Welcome!

We are the local chapter of the Arizona Archaeological Society and are the "friends" group for
Homolovi Ruins State Park.  We operate the museum shop for the park.  The park is located one mile
north of I-40 near Winslow, Arizona.  The park is open year-round (closed Christmas day) and the park
visitor center/museum shop is open daily 8-5 MST.

In addition to our purpose as a chapter of the
Arizona Archaeological Society, our purpose as the
Homolovi "friends group" is to:

  • assist Arizona State Parks with special projects and concerns
  • provide accurate publications for sale to the public
  • provide authentic Native American art for sale to the public
  • provide a year-round market for the work of Native American artists
  • fund special exhibits, outreach, programs and activities at Homolovi Ruins State Park
  • manage grants for the "Vera Fund", which pays Homolovi entrance fees for student groups
from the Winslow and Holbrook areas and from the Hopi and Navajo reservations
  • fund the publication of books and related items about the park and about the archaeology and
    anthropology of northeastern Arizona
  • sponsor special programs and events at Homolovi Ruins
  • fund archaeological projects in northeastern Arizona
  • manage a Speakers Bureau, which allows visiting groups to sponsor a park program
  • assist the park in providing special training for park staff, Hopi guides, area teachers, and for
    youth group leaders
We guarantee the authenticity of all items sold in our store.  We will accept returned items that are in
the same condition as when sold for thirty days after the date of purchase.

We are glad to ship internationally.  We do require insurance for art objects. This is included in the
purchase price, as is the cost for special packaging and shipping.  Additional costs for international
shipping are calculated on a case-by-case basis

Publications will be shipped "book rate" (media)- which is rather slow- unless you request faster
service.

Our art work is purchased directly from the artist unless otherwise noted.  We guarantee that the
item is culturally authentic to the best of our knowledge.  If we discover that an item is NOT
authentic, we will replace it or refund your money at any time, no matter how long it has been since
your purchase.  Only once have I been tricked!  The artist gave me a Hopi name when he was not
Hopi. Therefore, his katsintihu (kachina dolls), although beautiful, were not authentic.  When some
Hopi told me of my mistake, I labelled the items with an explanation and sold them at cost.

Arizona State Parks has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Hopi Nation.  One aspect
of this agreement is that ASP will assist the Hopi in expanding the market for the work of Hopi artists.
Therefore, in May, 2005, the archaeology society established this web store to help create a
year-round market for the artists. When tourism drops during the winter, most stores stop buying
from the artists.  Although we try to buy year round, we are hoping that this web site will allow us to
expand our shop and assist Hopi artists toward a dependable income.
